Todays nytimes talks about ‘what to do when rupert calls’, and re-examines a decade long question of how newspapers like wsj can be *saved*?
it says that the bancroft family can only hope a white knight like buffett or gates will save them.
I find this way of thinking incredibly outdated. Newspapers are dying because that’s what the market wants. Their cottage approach to reproducing the news for every geo area of the country makes no sense economically.
In their place, new models will evolve that better fit people’s connected, mobile lives.
The barriers to entry in news get lower every day. If rupert turns major authorities into rags, the reporters will turn on blogs and make more money as independent voices.
