The great charade of supreme court hearings

Here’s what I don’t get with the congrtessional hearings on putting alito on the supreme court. Why go through the pretense of hearings at all? We all know that the republicans are going to railroad another staunch conservative onto the courts. And that this new court will overthrow roe v. Wade as soon as possible.

We also all know by now that prospective appointees will refuse to answer questions about their values and philosophies and that this won’t ever stop their backers from voting in favor.

I read an article yesterday that talked about how markos from daily kos espouses a philosophy that the dems should be fighting the republicans at every turn, act totally partisan, and be purely focused on regaining power.

If markos is saying this I think he’s dead on with a brillaint insight. (Ill find out tomorrow at lunch.)

This is a stark contrast to the current strategy which I’d call ‘pussy politics’. The dems seem to be trying to sound like the republicans. I heard dean say on the daily show that they’d outdo the repubs on family values and religion…ridiculous. If you can’t beat em become one?

I believe in revolution not evolution. The lesser of two evils remains evil even if its called a democrat.

Any candidate accepting bribes is participating in our corrupt system no matter how they/we justify it.

Most of us have forgotten that the repubs came to washington as refromists. Will the mainstream now turn to the other ‘party’? For what purpose?

American politics and pretense of choice has surely become the new opium of the masses.

  1. We all know that the republicans are going to railroad another staunch conservative onto the courts.
Sure – that’s what American politics is about. And?
And that this new court will overthrow roe v. Wade as soon as possible.
Ah. No. Roe is, bar some kind of weird event in place to stay. This isn’t what right wing conservative want, but there it is. Life (and politics) is about the art of the practical.

  2. What’s so pathetic is that the Republicans (specifically the Bush administration) couldn’t have done more to give the Democrats an opportunity. And the democrats just suck. I am registered as a democrat, but seeing how inept they’ve been when everything was stacked in their favor, i’m not so sure anymore. I suppose they are the lesser of two evils, but man they are impotent.
